The day after election day, several Los Angeles streets were blocked off in California when
people gathered to protest Proposition 8, the Constitutional ban on gay marriage that was passed by the
majority of CA voters.
The protest lasted hours and authorities say 7 people were arrested. Though
most of the protestors were peaceful, one jumped on top of a police car and others "disturbed the peace" with
public drunkenness. Yikes - haven't they heard of Northcom? (Under
the George W. Bush administration, 4,700 combat-ready service members have been assigned to protect the US from...the US,
including "civil unrest and crowd control," armed with both lethal and non-lethal weapons as well as tanks.)
Hopefully new President-elect Barack Obama does something about the unConstitutional assignment of
military vs. American citizens, by the way.
California was not the only state that voted on the issue of
homosexual unions: Florida, Arizona, and
Arkansas also voted in favor of defining marriage as being between a man and a woman.
