Kiefer Sutherland Does His Time Like A Man
Saturday, January 11th, 2008

It doesn't pay to drink and drive - but it does pay to own up to your mistakes!  Hanukkah has gone by, Christmas has gone by, Christmas Eve has gone by, New Year's Eve and New Year's have gone by...even his 41st birthday went by, and Kiefer Sutherland spent all of the time behind bars, quietly doing laundry duty and being a golden star inmate at Glendale City Jail.

Sutherland, arrested in September for driving under the influence of alcohol, turned himself into an L.A. County courthouse on December 5th.  The judge allowed him to spend his time in the city of Glendale instead of L.A. County Jail (said to be due to "overcrowding").

He's received hundreds of fan letters but not visitors.  (Although you could always be the first - and let us know how it went!)

A Glendale City spokesman told PageSix that it's "lights out at 10 p.m. for Jack Bauer."  But sources say he is extremely well-behaved and polite, though he's not eligible for early release on good behavior.

Sounds like Kiefer's on good behavior...I'd rather see him happy and "reformed" on Larry King Live than Paris Hilton!  Good for you, Kiefer!

According to USA Today, about 40,151 people died in a crash involving a legally drunk driver - that law enforcement knows about - from 2004 to 2006, in the U.S.

1.  We used to like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, until members started supporting smoking bans and things we don't agree with.  But you can't deny that M.A.D.D., mothers who started a small group in 1980, became a major national figure in the battle against drunk driving.

2.  Well, don't let them be the only ones!!  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has some great tips on how you can form a group in your own community, dedicated to safety, and behind-the-wheel sobriety.

3.  Consider donating to or volunteering for the National Council For The Prevention of Impaired Driving (or even just stop by and check them out!).  They offer SafeRideAmerica, the service that will pick you up and drive your car home if you were drinking and need a ride!  They even have an online "reservation" for it if you know ahead of time that you'll be drinking and don't have a designated driver.  AMAZING!

4.  Help support SafeRide America by adding them as a friend to your MySpace page - that's free!  They are there for you when you need them most.

5.  Add this graphic to your own MySpace page, FaceBook, or website.  We'll host the image for you for free if you'll help spread the word!  Just copy and paste the code into your "About Me" section.  It will link back to the "How To Make A Difference" section of this article:

(There are more graphics here that you can right-click/save and add to your PhotoBucket).
