By The Way, Kid Nation Is Over
Saturday, October 11th, 2008 by Connie T.

I'm a little late on this news - okay, way late - but it seemed to disappear into
thin air like a puff of invisible smoke. Remember this
petition? In August of 2007 we created it in response to what was then CBS' new series, Kid Nation;
and 594 of you signed it to protest the show that had 40 young children doing hard labor, living
away from adult supervision, revoking their right to privacy, and being essentially exploited for
ratings.
Besides our own petition, many calls were made to child welfare services in New Mexico
regarding the filming of the series, and the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office investigated claims of
abuse of minors and possible violations of child labor laws (which were since dismissed). CBS was quick to defend the morality of the show, but though
they filmed a second season for Kid Nation 2, it looks like it will never air.
CBS' new shows have began for the 2008-09 season, and Kid Nation is not one of them.
The network has also confirmed that the series is cancelled.
So what have we learned from this? Child endangerment is not entertainment.
