Sgt. Kenneth B. Gibson of Christiansburg, VA was killed in action on August 10th in Tarmiyah, Iraq, from wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his position during dismounted operations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Gibson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division out of Schofield Barracks' Stryker Brigade, Hawaii.

Ken was 25 years old. The attack occurred around 2 pm Iraq time, 15 miles north of Baghdad. Shortly after the IED went off, an Iraqi suicide attack and small-arms fire followed. Two U.S. soldiers, two Iraqi policemen, and 15 Iraqi civilians were also injured in the incident.

Please keep Sgt. Gibson's family, friends, and fellow soldiers, as well as all those injured in the attack in your thoughts and prayers.
