Kelly Clarkson just returned from
touring in Australia and Europe, and was in Yonkers, New York yesterday
performing at a rally with seminarians and youth at Saint Joseph
Seminary. Hey, remember when Jessica Simpson was the token pop
performer for Christian events? So much for that! Kell-Kell
sang "Ave Maria" for Pope Benedict XVI on his visit to New York at the end of his U.S.
trip.
Clarkson has such a beautiful voice. Check out the
video.
There were about 25,000 people present at the
rally to see the Pope and hear the first and former American Idol
winner Clarkson sing the hymn.
"I was so excited to be asked
to sing for the Pope," Kelly said. "I grew up singing church music, and
it's always been a dream of mine to perform 'Ave Maria.' To have that
dream come true on such a special occasion is truly a
blessing."
