Kate Knight Will Be Jailed At Least 15 Years

Kate Knight is 28 years old, and lives in a city called Stoke-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, England.  Nearly three years ago, Kate prepared an anniversary dinner for her husband to celebrate their 7 years together:  a curry dish that she'd made, and a glass of red wine.  What her husband Lee Knight neglected to see while Kate was busying herself in the kitchen, was that she had laced both his food, and drink, with ethylene glycol--antifreeze.

Kate was convicted in Stafford Crown Court for the attempted murder of her husband.  Lee Knight survived, but had kidney failure, brain damage, hearing loss, and went permanently blind as a result.  According to the BBC, Lee now needs 24-hour care.

It was revealed during the trial that Kate did internet searches on methods of killing, including iron overdose, ecstasy, and anti-freeze.  (Apparently none of her search results alerted her to the fact that internet searches can prove intent in a court of law.)

Then her neighbor came forward and testified that Kate had mentioned trying to pay for a hitman - and the rest, as they say, is history.

A judge told her yesterday that she will serve at least 15 years of her 30-year sentence before being eligible for parole, the UK's Daily Mail reported.  The prosecution said that Kate's motivations were financial and she believed she could get life insurance and payouts if Stephen died.
