Karl Rove - the former Deputy
Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, and
since a commentator on FOX News, Newsweek, and the Wall
Street Journal, has been subpoenaed by the U.S. House of
Representatives Judiciary Committee. Committee Chairman John
Conyers, Jr., a Democrat in Michigan, issued a press release today announcing that Rove is wanted
to produce testimony about the "politicization of the Department of
Justice (DOJ)," and former Governor Don Siegelman's
case.
Don Siegelman was the 51st Governor of Alabama until he
was defeated by Rep. Bob Riley in 2002. Four
years later, a Federal jury convicted Siegelman on corruption
charges and sentenced him to seven years in prison. He was
released, however, in March of 2008 on bond pending his
appeal. |
The House
Judiciary Committee states that Karl Rove's attorney sent a letter to the
Committee yesterday "expressing that Rove would not agree to testify
voluntarily" as the Committee had requested. From John Conyers,
Jr.:
It is unfortunate that Mr. Rove has failed to cooperate with our
requests. Although he does not seem the least bit hesitant to
discuss these very issues weekly on cable television and in the print news
media, Mr. Rove and his attorney have apparently concluded that a public
hearing room would not be appropriate. Unfortunately, I have no
choice today but to compel his testimony on these very important
matters. Uh-oh. Hillary Clinton
has been proudly toting Karl Rove's endorsement of
her for the Democratic nominee. Will this mean anything negative for
Hill?
