Yes, it's making headlines...but I don't
think the slogan "any press is good press" applies to the presidential
race. Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas, who is a
Republican, an ordained Southern Baptist Minister, and an
ultra-conservative, is bringing Chuck Norris on the campaign
trail.
Huckabee, who is known for losing over 100
pounds in a short time, and for trampling on the personal freedoms of
smokers with an indoor smoking ban, gave two words for "securing the
border": Chuck Norris.
I don't think that's very funny.
I also don't think it's necessarily a
positive image for Huckabee to be endorsed by Chuck Norris. Sure,
we all joke that Chuck Norris's tears could cure cancer (only he doesn't
cry), and believe you me I've spent many a morning watching Walker,
Texas Ranger.
But not because I believe that Chuck Norris
is any kind of superhero. In fact, in the back of my mind I've
always known he's a terrible actor, egotistical to the extreme, and even
sexist with a lot of the ridiculous old-fashioned outlook on life and
relationships through his scripts.
No, in this presidential race, I want
someone that I trust, take seriously, and admire. We've had a
laughing stock for a President for almost seven years. I'll opt
out, thanks.
