Actors, Stars Come
Together To
Save Heath Ledger's Reputation
Monday, February 4th,
2008

The media can be so, so cruel...but
thankfully, there are always good people out there to keep them in
check. The UK
Telegraph revealed yesterday that tabloid TV show Entertainment
Tonight (ET) - owned by CBS (know your mass media empire!) - was planning on
airing private footage of the late actor Heath Ledger on their show,
allegedly discussing drugs at a party.
Reps for Sean Penn, Mike
Myers, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Williams, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer
Hudson, Katie Holmes, and Ellen DeGeneres all registered protests against
CBS and Entertainment Tonight, according to the Telegraph. The Daily
Telegraph reported that Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Sarah
Jessica Parker also boycotted the video.
A letter from one of the
PR firms stated, "For the sake of his grieving family and friends, his
child and common decency, we hope to pressure Entertainment Tonight
and The Insider to do the right thing and pull the
spot...This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a
shameful exploitation of the lowest kind, to a talented and gentle soul,
undeserving of such treatment."
AMEN!!
Kudos to all of the
heartwarming celebs who got the clip pulled. The letter and request
were beautiful; unfortunately they were delivered to an outfit without a
conscience...but mission accomplished
regardless!
ET - who reportedly denied the initial
request from Heath Ledger's PR firm to remove the material
- ultimately pulled the clip, and claimed it was "out
of respect for Heath Ledger's family." Yeah
right.
As if they didn't hear it, the first time, when Michelle Williams begged for privacy
and respect. Meanwhile, Jack Nicholson states that he was misquoted regarding the rumors on the
internet that Jack "warned" Heath Ledger - Jack was talking about
warning people in general about sleeping pills, he said, because
he has his own bad experience with them - and that Nicholson did not
know Heath.
Wait!
There's more! More
