Governors Want Stimulus Money From Obama
Monday, December 15th, 2008 by Connie T.

At the beginning of the month, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich told the press that
U.S. governors are seeking up to $100 billion to be added to any proposed federal stimulus plan to cover state
costs. Blagojevich was one of 48 governors who met
with Obama this month to request assistance in a nearly two-hour meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Just days later, however, Blagojevich was entwined in scandal and President elect Barack Obama
issued a statement calling for Blagojevich's resignation.
But the request stands: the National Governors
Association is asking for $12 billion in a year to cover Medicaid and social services costs, and individually governors
are asking for billions for each state: Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick submitted a $3.4 billion request, and
Governor Jim Doyle The US Conference of Mayors is asking for $73.2 billion
for over 11,000 projects to produce jobs.
