General Motors Auto Union strike
deadline is up Monday, September 24th, 2007

The United Auto Workers posted a strike
notice last night on the website of UAW Local
160, and the deadline is up at 11:00 a.m. EST today. It's the
tenth day since their current contract with GM was set to expire, and
union workers are engaged in a battle over 401(k) and healthcare with
the largest automaker in the U.S.
C.E.O Rick Wagoner has advised that he needs
to watch healthcare costs as Toyota Motor Corp. and other foreign
automakers gain on GM. He is looking to cut fixed expenses -
including labor costs - up to 25% of revenue by 2010. The two sides
ahve been unable to reach an agreement on how much GM will contribute to
their healthcare trust fund. The UAW has not gone on strike against
General Motors since 1998.
We love it when people fight for their
rights! Will there be banging drums and marches?
