Two Down:
Rudy Giuliani, John Edwards Quit
Race
Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

There are still no official announcements, but
both Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards have confirmed to sources that they
are dropping out of the US Presidential race. As we published last
night, Giuliani told his own supporters, and FOX News (who is
reporting on it, but carefully wording it until Rudy makes his
announcement). The AP is reporting that they have "learned"
Edwards will be making his official exit today, after Edwards'
advisers confirmed it to them.
Isn't it funny how it works these days? It's purposely
leaked to the media before the official announcements are made - as if
they might still hold out to change their mind while
they're tweaking their surrender speeches - and meanwhile, their
websites are still accepting campaign donations right now, as you read
this.
No, actually...it's not funny at all. The media's job is
supposed to be to report on things, not to be in bed with the
politicians they are reporting on.
We may not have liked
Republican candidate Fred Thompson, but at least he had the decency to
announce his own withdrawal on his website first, and
stop accepting donations. The media was even somewhat taken
aback...it was just a simple statement announcing he's leaving the race,
and that was that.
That, at least, we respected.
UPDATE: Edwards has
now officially announced it himself.
It's still not up on his website yet.
UPDATE II: Giuliani has now also
officially made a statement.
