Heart Of Gold Award: George Clooney
Sunday, January
20th, 2008

George Clooney was named a United Nations Messenger Of
Peace on Friday, as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon gave him the title
for his awesome peacekeeping efforts on behalf of the refugees in
Darfur. Clooney is in Sudan right now, and will be receiving his
official designation on January 31st at U.N. headquarters.
A
spokeswoman for the U.N. said that Clooney was chosen "for focusing public
attention on crucial international political and social
issues."
Clooney has been working with the Save Darfur Coalition on
a human rights mission in China and Egypt to bring attention to the
genocide in Sudan's Darfur region with senior government officials, and to
urge both nations to use their influence over Sudan to end the
killings.
On December 15th, he met with UN Secretary-General Kofi
Annan to brief him on his meetings with government officials and the
progress (or lack thereof) of the serious situation in Darfur.
Is
it any wonder why he's constantly called the most eligible bachelor in
Hollywood?
 1) Visit the Save
Darfur Coalition to learn how you can help, where you can donate, how
to join their campaign, and where there's a local Save Darfur group in
your area.
2) Boycott the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Now is
the time to send the message that none of us will allow - or support -
anyone that contributes to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
