George
Clooney Shunned By Russia At Darfur Speech
Thursday, January 31st, 2008
Our previous
Heart of Gold award winner George Clooney conducted a
meeting today with U.S. officials, and said that his role as U.N.
messenger of peace is difficult when he is unable to give that
message. Clooney was supposed to give a speech today to a meeting of
nations regarding peacekeeping in Sudan's western region, but certain
countries actually objected to him speaking - including Russia -
and he was not given time to talk.
Wow, that sounds like what happened to Ron Paul
and Mike Huckabee on last night's debate (no, we will not stop talking about
that, because CNN was so terribly biased!).
But Clooney was most
definitely qualified to speak on this subject, as he just returned
from Darfur and witnessed the lack of equipment for civilians to
protect themselves.
In a press conference, Clooney said, "There are
some groups protecting 250-square kilometers of desert with no helicopters
and no radios that work. So either give them the basic tools for
protecting the population (and themselves) or have the decency to just
bring them all home...And go back into your offices and wait until it's
all over. It should take too long before they'll stop hoping for the
U.N.
to come."
This is bull! Let the U.N. do their
job!
