Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg Need Something Better To Do
Saturday, July 25th, 2008 by Connie T.

Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates and Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg
have teamed up and announced this week that they will be spending $500 million to try and
stop people from smoking tobacco. Mayor Bloomberg's foundation will be giving $250 million
over four years in addition to a $125 million gift he announced two years ago; the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation will be giving $125 million over five years.
The campaign is to be called "Mpower"
and, among other things, will urge state governments to sharply increase tobacco taxes, prohibit
smoking in public places, outlaw advertising to kids, and pump up antismoking ad campaigns.
First of
all, we have no idea why Bill Gates would want to align himself with Mayor Bloomberg. Bloomberg,
the Andrew Volstead of
tobacco products, who has given NYC anti-smoking laws so strict that only 5% of the entire
world compares; and whom 59% of you disagree with.
What will taxes be raised on next? Alcohol? Saturated
fats? Sex? Will personal choice just be thrown entirely out the window?
Bill has been disappointing us a lot
lately. First he retired XP against
the consumers' wishes, and now this. It makes us really consider a Mac next.
