Rear Window vs. Disturbia

A lawsuit has been filed against Dreamworks, Viacom and Universal. The
suit alleges that Steven Spielberg was essentially doing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear
Window and did so without getting permission from the copyright holders.
Rear Window was based on a short story by Cornell Woolrich titled "Murder From a
Fixed Viewpoint." When Hitchcock made his version he obtained permission. The Sheldon Abend
Revocable Trust which owns the copyright says Dreamworks should have done the same thing.
Reviews for Disturbia have called it "a kind of adolescent Rear Window" and
"a rip-off with wit". I'm not sure why an adolescent would need a remake of Rear
Window. My adolescent loved the original.
Anyways, Spielberg isn't commenting
and Dreamworks isn't commenting. No mention was made about the abysmal made for television
remake of Rear Window.
