Bush
Administration Blocks
EPA
Bid To Reduce Gas Emissions
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Green gifts are all the rage this year,
Priuses galore, Inconvenient Truth DVDs for Christmas, etc.,
etc. And yet the Bush Administration still doesn't get it. I
know, I know, I have a pet peeve about him every day. But really -
nearly every day there is a news story about something this administration
has done that I find shameful.
Today, they blocked a landmark
California law that was aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions from
motor vehicles. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said the law was
pre-empted due to the new national energy bill President Bush signed
earlier in the day.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed his
disappointment with the decision through is press secretary today,
according to EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson in a conference call
with reporters.
"We will continue to fight this battle," Gov.
Schwarzenegger said in a press release. "California sued to compel
the agency to act on our waiver, and now we will sue to overturn today's
decision and allow Californians to protect our environment."
David
Doniger, of the Natural Resources Defense Coucil (NRDC), said, "They're
sticking their thumb in the eye of the 18 governors from red and
blue states."
And yet the articles on this story are just a teeny, tiny fraction
of today's press coverage on Jamie Lynn Spears (see our News
Roundup, where we try to stick the
less-significant-but-highly-discussed crap).

 Come
on, this one's easy, you can do it! Join the NRDC and tell your senators to strengthen a landmark
global warming bill today. All you have to do is sign (with your
keyboard)!
