The decision to break her tradition and endorse a candidate in the
presidential race this year apparently has not won Oprah any brownie
points with the public. Instead, for the first time in five
years, Oprah has been pushed out of the number one spot as U.S.'s
favorite television personality by Ellen Degeneres, who jumped from No. 8
to No. 1. The singing, dancing, down-to-earth hilarity that is Ellen
DeGeneres has taken first place in the public eye in a new Harris poll released yesterday.
Not that
Oprah wasn't high on the list. According to Harris, of 1,171
U.S. adults surveyed, DeGeneres was the favorite among women, and Jay Leno
was the favorite among men.
"Even among women there is a difference
of opinion, as single women say Ellen is their favorite while married
women pick Oprah," Harris said.
The combined total for all adults
ranked TV personalities in the following order for 2007:
