Elizabeth Edwards Opens Up To Detroit Free Press
Thursday, September 18th, 2008 by Connie T.

Look, I've never been one to care about politician's personal lives per say. I'm
of the belief that what goes on behind their closed doors is their own business, whether it's
in Texas or the White House or anywhere, when it comes to...personal relations. But despite
wanting to see "public interest" in her husband John Edwards' affair go away, Elizabeth
Edwards spoke to the Detroit Free Press
in an in-depth interview published this week.
When you mention trust, that's
probably the most difficult hurdle. But for me...the decisions I make are based entirely on
what is the best thing for my children. So the best thing for my children has been to lay low and
to see public interest in this become less so it doesn't become a badge they have to wear...
My concern at the present time is that these children can live with their father being an advocate
for poverty, not for this current picture of him to be the one they carry with them, as young people
and as adults. There is no such thing as perfection, Elizabeth said, and she has great
days and "terrible" days.
John Edwards' extramarital affair with former campaign worker
Rielle Hunter, which he'd repeatedly denied, became public after The National Enquirer published a series of reports
following his activities and alleged visitations with a child the Enquirer claims is
a product of the affair. Hunter has refused to submit herself or her child to a DNA paternity test.
Elizabeth is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and is an advocate for the cause.
