Seriously...EGGS From China?
Thursday, October 30th, 2008 by Connie T.

Wal-Mart announced this week that it pulled a major brand of eggs
from their shelves, imported from China, due to concerns of contamination with the industrial chemical melamine. Adding
melamine to products can be done to artificially boost protein content.
Consuming dairy
products with melamine in them can lead to kidney failure or even death. The World Health Organization (WHO)
has said that the amount of melamine in the eggs was not a threat, but wanted answers as to
why it was present in the eggs, produced by the Hanwei Group.
Importing eggs from China? Really? Wouldn't
the cost of packaging these extremely fragile products outweigh the savings? Apparently not.
This discovery also raises concerns about the pork, fish, chicken and beef products being
imported from China. Hong Kong authorities have announced they will expand their melamine testing.
And in Thailand, the Food and Drug administration announced high levels of melamine in
chocolate bars imported from China, nearly 14 times the legal limit.
I went to K-Mart yesterday
looking for a toy for a 6-month-old. I flipped over every single, and I mean every single toy
on their shelves in that age group bracket, and there was not a single one that wasn't
manufactured in China. It's bad enough we've lost our children's toys, and have to closely watch
for recalls do to lead levels in paint or what-have-you. But eggs? EGGS?
Not only the fragility factor,
but...millions of poultry have died throughout Asia from the avian bird flu. And God only knows
the suffering chickens might face without being bound by U.S. laws for animal protection. Ridiculous!
