Apparently You Can Use
Dancing With The Stars To Delay Surgery
Wednesday,
April 30th, 2008

What an overly-dramatic week on Dancing With
The Stars. Overly - not because there was a lot of real drama -
but because we had to hear and see the replay where Cristian de la
Fuente hurt his arm ad infinitum, and hear Samantha Harris
reflect upon how sad it was ad infinitum. He hurt it during the
samba with Cheryl Burke. At first Tom Bergeron told
the audience that an EMT diagnosed it as a "severe muscle cramp."
But last night, de la Fuente announced that his doctor said he'd torn a
tendon. Here's the kicker: the doctor told him he needed
surgery to repair it, and Cristian said that he chose to delay the
surgery and continue on with Dancing With The Stars.
Now: if you have a serious tendon injury, are you even able
to compete in full-out professional dancing? It makes no sense
to us.
But Cristian was safe from
elimination by the viewers' votes (and judges' scores combined), as were
Mario Barrett, Jason Taylor,
Marissa Winokur, and Kristi
Yamaguchi. So there are now six contestants left in the
competition. We were pretty surprised to see Shannon
Elizabeth and Derek Hough get sent home last
night.
It was kind of embarrassing, too; as soon as they got
eliminated, Derek moved to congratulate the others, and Shannon stopped
him and said "Wait for the music," seemingly not realizing her mike was
on, and then began walking off to talk to Bergeron.
But, apparently
they're doing quite well, as they confirmed their new relationship on the
news today:
Is it real, do you think?
