Is Coke Zero Dangerous?
Monday, June 15th, 2009 by Connie T.

You can find a lot of people that consider aspartame - an artificial sweetener in many diet
soft drink products - to be harmful. FDA officials have said, however, that aspartame is "one of the most thoroughly tested
and studied food additives the agency has ever approved," and consider it safe. Now, though, a brand new controversy
is bubbling: are there harmful ingredients in Coke Zero?
Venezuela has just banned the sale of Coca-Cola Zero,
citing the preservation of the health of Venezuelans as the reason. President Hugo Chavez has said the reason for the ban was excessive presence of
Sodium Cyclamate, banned for human consumption by the FDA in the US since 1969, after being linked to bladder cancer
in lab rats. Venezuela's Health Ministry said Coca-Cola failed to declare that the no-calorie drink uses this sweetener.
There is even an online campaign against
the product called The Zero Movement.
A Coca-Cola spokesperson told the Associated Press that "no ingredient of Coca-Cola
Zero is harmful to peoples' health;" a US-based spokesperson said the company is in discussions with the Venezuelan government.
