Dick Cheney, 'It's Good To Be Back' In Iraq
Monday, March 17th,
2008

The LA Times reports that a female suicide
bomber killed 36 Iraqi civilians, and a roadside bomb
in Baghdad killed 2 U.S. soldiers today. This
brings the total of U.S. military deaths in Iraq to 10
in the span of one week, as last Monday 8 U.S. soldiers were killed by bombing in Iraq.
Somehow, though, Vice President Dick Cheney was able to
meander on over to Baghdad today unscathed, and literally said, "It's good to be back in Iraq" upon his
arrival.

"It would be a mistake now," he said,
"To be so eager to draw down the force that we risk putting the outcome
in jeopardy. And I don't think we'll do that."
"As we move
forward, the Iraqi people should know that they will have the unwavering
support of President Bush and the United States in consolidating their
democracy," Cheney added.
Yeah, for, what--10 more months?
Until, hopefully, we elect a leader who actually represents the wishes
of the American people? Not that Americans wouldn't like to see a
democratized Iraq - but the support for the invasion and continued
occupation has been very low amongst the U.S. population in
polls.
Just a little press op with Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki, for the fifth anniversary, as Dick Cheney likes to
call it, of the Iraq War. Except that he refers to it as "the
fifth anniversary of the beginning of the campaign that liberated the
people of Iraq from Saddam Hussein's tyranny and launched them on the
difficult but historic road to democracy."
What an eloquent way
to rewrite the term "war."
Cheney said nothing of the thousands
of protestors worldwide who have
expressed their opposition of the conflict in the Middle East this
week.
