Sorry we didn't have any news up over the weekend, all,
but we were taking a little R&R in Detroit, Michigan. Here
are 5 reasons why Detroit is an awesome place for a weekend
getaway:
1) The trip was paid for and then some after we
spent some time in the MGM Grand Casino!
What a beautiful funhouse the MGM Grand is...we got lucky on the slot
machines, of which there are 4,500 (and almost 100 table
games).

2) The food in the local restuarants is
devine. Again at the MGM - the Seafood Bisque at the Wolfgang Puck
Grille is the best seafood bisque we've ever tried!
3) The Omni Hotel, only 8 miles
from the heart of Detroit, offers free transportation to local
attractions, has a variety of packages (we chose the Holiday Romance
Package, and received a box of delicious Godiva truffles in our secluded
room upon arrival), and the guest services people are amazingly
kind. Shoutout to Kim at the front desk that checked us in and was
so kind in giving us directions and helping us snag a cab, the shuttle,
and a great snack in Fender's Tavern...great people!
The ceilings in the room are sky high, the rooms provide
peace and quiet with thick walls and huge, comfy beds; the inhouse
Restaurant Tavern delivers scrumptious breakfast in bed; there is a
beautiful blue water, three-mile river walk just outside your door along
the Canadian coastline. We'd return in a heartbeat!

4) The city is already alive with the sites of
Christmas: the drive into the city reveals lit trees, holiday
lights, decorative little shops with their window displays, sky-high
buildings with Christmas decorations.
5) You can smoke in public. Hip, hip,
hooray! The restaurants and attractions where we stopped had
classy rock or marble ashtrays with fine sand, and happy smokers (many
from Ohio or neighboring smoking ban states, like us) relished in taking
in their puffs in the comfort of heated rooms, in the cold season.
Cocktail in one hand, ciggy in another? No problem - proper
ventilation for smokers and nonsmokers alike.
We are loving Detroit, Michigan!
