Danny Noriega like Clay
Aiken, Prince, and Toni Braxton might sound if their voices were
merged into one. He shifts pitch pretty effortlessly like Clay, but
has husky overtones throughout a la Braxton, and a little Prince
kick in each bar (you'll see what I mean in the Ellen
appearance below). He's soothing to listen to - but at the same
time it makes me want to put on a couture dress with red fishnets and take
my honey out dancing. yet, during his second appearance on
American Idolthis season, Simon
Cowell referred to his performance as "absolutely
useless."
And worse, upon his elimination, Simon dubbed
his song "grotesque." I've admitted I love Simon Cowell, but he went
too far on this one. Danny confessed, "the first time he called me
grotesque, I started crying. I was bawling."
But no need
to feel sorry for Danny Noriega, just 18 years old; he may have been
booted from Idol, but big hearts in show business welcomed him
off the stage with open arms. Rosie O'Donnell
immediately posted a "Talky Blog" on her website, offering him two free
tickets to her R Family Vacation in June, to perform on her cruise ship
for thousands.
"Danny, if you're watching, I don't know if you have
to sit around the American Idol studio and, like, look sad for the next
few weeks or something--'cause I think that's part of the contract?" Rosie
said. "But a week from tomorrow, an R Family Vacation cruise is
leaving from San Diego for one week, and going to...Puerto Vallarta...so,
Danny Noriega--'Tainted Love' kid--you got a free cruise...and I think
you're fantastic, and I think you're bold, and brave...and I admire you,
Danny Noriega. And you have an amazing voice."
On today's
Ellen show, Ellen DeGeneres had Noriega on
as a guest. She said that she, too,
loves his voice and mentioned she'd call her friend Simon Cowell because she thought
he was being a meanie.
