Aaack! ABC has finally announced the cast
of Dancing With The Stars Season 6, and we are EXCITED!
Well, we're always excited for DWTS, it doesn't really matter who stars in
it: but this year's treat is Priscilla
Presley! Classic! The other female dancers
will be Shannon Elizabeth, Marlee
Matlin, Monica Seles, Marissa Jaret
Winokur, and Kristi Yamaguchi. The male
cast will be Adam Carolla, Mario
Barrett, Cristian De La Fuente, Steve
Guttenberg, Penn Jillette, and Jason
Taylor.
Here's a breakdown of who's who and what we (and
you!) think:
The Men
Mario Barrett, aka
R&B singer Mario, sang that "Let Me Love You" a few years
ago that you could never get out of your head. You know, that
"Baby, you're a star, I just wanna show you you are, you should let me
love you, let me be the one to, give you everything you want and
need. Baby, true love and-"...oh my gosh, now I can't stop
myself. If you don't know what we're talking about, here's the
flashback:
Adam Carolla is a comedian
and radio/television personality who is best known for cohosting
Loveline with Dr. Drew on the radio and MTV and hosting "The
Adam Carolla Show" morning radio program.
Cristian de la Fuente is originally from
Chile, but is known in the US for guest roles on CSI and
Family Law; he was also on the Spanish version of Starsky
and Hutch (Reyes y Rey) on Telemundo. There is
also a more than average circulation of shirtless posters of him in
the world.
Steve Guttenberg starred
in a variety of film roles in the 1980's; he also wrote, produced, and
starred in the film adaptation of Broadway's P.S. Your Cat Is
Dead. He had a recurring role in Veronica Mars
and starred with Jessica Simpson and Vivica A. Fox on the
direct-to-DVD comedy flick Major Movie Star (which critics hardly
got past the preview of thanks to one of the must unrealistic adaptations
of the U.S. Army ever - not so funny in times of war).
Preview below from WorstPreviews.com.
Penn
Jillette, who will be 53 next month, is the comedian/magician and
one-half of the Penn & Teller team - and we can just picture some
backstage fit over someone asking him where Teller is for the 10 millionth
time, the poor guy. He
used to date Robin Quivers from The Howard Stern Show, believe it or
not.
Jason Taylor is an NFL player for the Miami
Dolphins, and has won the Walter Payton NFL Man Of The Year Award.
He fits right in as the stand in for past seasons' token athlete (Emmitt
Smith, Floyd Mayweather, etc. - actually all of these castmembers fit a
mold - ABC doesn't mess with success). He also founded the Jason Taylor
Foundation with his wife Katina in 2004, a charity still going strong
helping to finance the futures of underprivileged kids. He's won our
heart already!
The Women
Shannon Elizabeth (nee
Fadal)is the one many of you...erm..."watched"...as the
foreign exchange student Nadia in the American Pie
movie(s). She was also in Scary Movie,
Tomcats,and Playboy and Maxim
spreads. Shannon founded the nonprofit Animal Avengers
rescue organization, and is a longtime proponent of animal rights.
Therefore, next to Priscy, she's the other future female castmember we
heart the most!
Marlee Matlin has won an Oscar and
a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Children
Of A Lesser God. She was also nominated for Emmy's for
appearances in Law & Order SVU, The Practice,
Seinfeld, and Picket Fences. Marlee has been deaf
since she was an infant.
Priscilla Presley...does
she really need an introduction? Besides being Elvis Presley's famed
ex-wife, on her own Priscilla is a model, best-selling author, mother to
Lisa Marie Presley, and the subject of multiple biographical books and
movies. She's 62 years old and still looks like her daughter's
sister.
Monica Seles is formerly the greatest
professional tennis player in the world, and was also the youngest
champion at the French Open (at just 16). She is originally from
Serbia (and we're curious as to whether or not she'll be asked to comment
on Kosovo). Seles was the victim of a fan attack in '93, and was
stabbed in the back; two years later, she returned to tennis briefly, but
the injury did longterm damage to her career. She just announced
this month that she is officially returned from
tennis.
Marissa Jaret Winokur is a cute, curvy actress
and comedienne who won a Tony Award for her role in Broadway's
Hairspray, and has starred in television series Moesha,
The Steve Harvey Show, Felicity, Dharma & Greg, and
Stacked (with Pamela Anderson). She is in full remission after a quiet bout with cervical cancer
during her time on Broadway.
Kristi Yamaguchi is a
former American and World figure skating champion. Remember her
Wendy's commercials? She's a Japanese-American gold medalist, is in
the U.S. Olympics Hall of Fame, and has been a commentator for the winter
Olympics. She's skated both as a single and in pairs, very successfully. She also has a charity, Kristi
Yamaguchi & Always
Dream Foundation, founded in 2003, which strives to provide a positive
influence on children. Love it!
Not only are these new
castmembers gorgeous, but many of them are do-gooders, too! This
will bring more attention to some very beneficial charities...double
yay! Part of the magic of DWTS is that it often brings lower-profile
"celebrities" back into the public eye that their fans greatly
missed.
So, for the heck of it, here's ConnieTalk's random wish
list for castmembers of future seasons of Dancing With The
Stars: anybody from Zoobilee Zoo (but they must maintain
costume and character); anybody from The Electric Company (Sesame
Street's old sister show that made Morgan Freeman famous); Crystal
Gayle (we want to see if her hair gets in the way!);
Tony Rich (remember the Tony Rich Project?); Toni
Braxton, for that matter; Jodi
Benson (because Ariel in The Little Mermaid had the
purtiest voice ever); John Stamos (or anyone from
Full House, really - Candace Cameron would be
great); Ron Paul (so he'll get a chance to actually speak on national television); and Bill
Gates.
Yeah, I know, he doesn't need the money, but
wouldn't it be great TV?
