While we were out, Dan Rather - who, as you know, is battling
CBS Corp. in court for $70 million - was in the Twin Cities the weekend of June 6-8th
for the National Conference for Media Reform. While he was there, he sat down with
Minneapolis' KARE11 to discuss the need for, and goal of media advocates such as himself, Bill
Moyers, and others.
"We need more diversity in the media, and I am concerned
about the huge international conglomerates owning so much of the mass media in the
country. It raises the question of will we have enough diversity in our news coverage,
enough independence in our news coverage?"
Accountability is deep in the
American character. It's also very important to our system of government...Mostly
[Media Reform's] educating the public to the power of the people to get the kind of
news that they want, the kind of news that they're entitled to have.
We
agree. So if you're a company or investor and you want to support an independent
news site, keep ConnieTalk in mind, too! (I mean, we've gotta live!)
