Where In
The World Is Dan Rather?
Monday, February 25th, 2008

Don't you miss Dan Rather? We
do. We miss hearing "What is the frequency;" or Rather signing off
with the word "Courage." Especially the unique metaphors that
have come to be known as "Ratherism's," like on
election night in the year 2000 when Dan said of the close
race between Al Gore and George W. Bush: "Another look at the
electoral vote count...Look at that. Can't get a cigarette paper
between 'em."
Though I long ago stopped tuning into CBS
- after Rather was let go and sensational "reality" shows
like Kid Nation hit the CBS Corp. airwaves
- I still feel the gaping absence of Dan Rather in the 2008 elections
commentary.
A lot has happened since our September, 2007 article,
"Dan Rather Says Democracy Cannot Survive, And Why You Should
Care."
Dan Rather is still a plaintiff in the ongoing lawsuit
against CBS Corp., former CBS parent Viacom Inc., CBS President Leslie
Moonves, Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone, and former CBS News President
Andrew Heyward, seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $50
million in punitive damages.
In January, Justice Ira Gammerman of
the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan denied CBS defense attorneys' request to dismiss the $70
million lawsuit, saying "I think discovery should go forward."
It
has been about a month, though, since any updates on Rather's case have
been disclosed in the media. ConnieTalk.com has been in contact
with Dan Rather's legal counsel and hope to
provide an exclusive update for you shortly, on questions you've
asked since our last article on Rather, a beloved anchor to millions for
24 years.
If there are
any questions you have regarding this case, please send them to us and
we will consider them for inclusion in our next article. Check
back soon for the update.
