CW Cancels Girlfriends Series Without A Finale
 Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Many a female (and male, for that matter) heart is breaking today over the news.  The Young, Black, and Fabulous celebrity news blog revealed that the series Girlfriends on the CW network has been cancelled.  Not only that, but last night's two episodes were the last episodes ever - no goodbye, no farewell, no adieu.  In fact, TV Guide has confirmed this news in two small sentences tucked away in this list of lineups:  "Two pre-strike episodes remain [aired 2/11/08].  No additional episodes expected, although a special one-hour series finale is being discussed."

"The network is not even planning to tape a series finale," Natasha of YBF wrote, who broke the story first.  "The decision was made very last-minute which is why these final episode[s] were not advertised as such."

YBF also reports that the production team was in discussions to bring back Toni Childs, played by Jill Marie Jones, who was sorely missed by fans after her departure.

"Girlfriends was one year way from being the longest-running African American sitcom in television history," Natasha wrote today.

The series was in its eighth season and starred Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks, Persia White, Reggie Hayes, Khalil Kain, and Keesha Sharp.  The CW has not even posted an announcement on this, and their website still shows that the show will be moving to a new Sunday timeslot - leaving fans upset and angry.

Girlfriends has won an NAACP Image Award and has been nominated for an Emmy.

The creator of the fun, Sex In The City-esque show is Mara Brock Akil, and it's produced by Kelsey Grammar (who endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president, so he's already getting weird in our eyes).  And really, none of this surprises us since the network is half-owned by CBS Corp. and half-owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment, which are all sheisty to the core in the first place.

However.  The fans are sad, so let's help them out.

If you're a fan of the show - or if you just plain love a good MSM boycott as much as we do - go here to find out how to fire off your e-mails.
