Congress Enjoys Nearly 3 Times The Vacation
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 by Connie T.

If we've had a string of slow news days in the political arena, it
could have something to do with the fact that our Congress is off on a five-week
vacation - one that started early, too, at noon on Friday, August 1st.
And five weeks is a lot, considering the average American has only 12 days of vacation
all year, granting Congress' month + hiatus almost three times the off-time of us
regular folks.
Not only that, but around 31 percent of U.S. workers don't take
all of their vacation days, instead giving back an average of three vacation days
per year.
I'm sure the House has other allowed off-days in addition to this slotted
time frame, too. So when Democratic candidate Barack Obama began telling America
that we deserve health care at least as good as Congress - it felt like, it's about damn
time somebody started measuring up what we get in comparison to our so-called public servants.
Oh, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi adjourned the House of Representatives before a vote was taken
on whether or not we can drill for our own oil, which means gasoline prices will continue
to eat away at our bank accounts at least until Congress reconvenes in September.
Yay.
