We Found Clay Aiken...In Somalia!
Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Yesterday we asked
Clay Aiken fans what the former American Idol contestant has been up to, since we haven't heard much
since the Jaymes Foster rumors hit the 'net. As usual, Claymates didn't disappoint - they revealed to us
that Clay has been in Somalia doing humanitarian work as part of his role as a UN goodwill Ambassador. See,
it pays to be kind...the fans always give us the inside scoop!
So we've found some quotes from
Clay on the work he's been doing there (and those who reported Clay was shunning his role can now eat their
hats).
The Calgary Herald reports that Clay wants the world to know about the conflict and hunger
in Somalia. Clay said:
"There hasn't been much discussion of Somalia since the early 1990's in the
U.S. The American population kind of got a bad taste of Somalia in the early 90's and hasn't really had much
interest in the country since...It's the most dangerous place for a child to be. In the lower part of the country,
southern part, I feel it's a more desperate situation than any place we've ever been."
"In Somalialand,
you really do have a sense of people who really want to help themselves, who want to do better, who want to effect
change for themselves; that is very hopeful."
