Charlize Theron Named Peace Messenger

On Friday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that the title of
United Nations messenger of peace is bestowed upon actress Charlize Theron, for using her "voice,
compassion, and special relationship with the public to create a better world."
Charlize's position
will focus on stopping violence against women. Besides being a voice for human rights and against domestic
violence, Charlize is also a spokesperson for PETA, an active
animal rights proponent, and involved in women's rights organizations.
There have been more than 10 UN messengers of peace, including
George Clooney, Michael Douglas, Jane Goodall, and others.
