Mike Tyson and Lindsay Lohan
hit the slammer
Monday, November 19th, 2007
Today's celebrity (in)justice sees Mike
Tyson sentence to 24 hours in jail, and Lindsay Lohan skating out of her
light sentence. As for Lohan, she only served 84 minutes in jail,
despite the 4-day minimum sentence requirement (her judge opted for
the smallest punishment possible for the crime). Prosecutors
allowed her to serve 10 days of community service instead of two days'
worth of jail time, and she was credited for time served from the July
DUI charge, so it left only 24 hours in jail, which was hardly
reached.
She served her time at the Century Regional
Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, the same facility where Paris
Hilton stayed for her DUI sentence in June. In fact, she didn't
even make it into a cell - she was kept in a holding area and released
less than two hours later, just before lunchtime. So she didn't
even get the hard-boiled egg and bologna sandwich. She was
released according to the prison's policy for releasing nonviolent
offenders due to "overcrowding."
A prison spokesperson said that Lindsay was
"fingerprinted, photographed, and put in a holding cell, but was let go
due to our early release policy."
Conspiracy!
Mike Tyson was sentenced today to just 24
hours in the slammer and 3 years' probation for an incident with Arizona
police last December, though he could have gotten up to 4 years in
prison. He was leaving a strip club, when cops pulled him over,
and found bags of cocaine, plus witnessed him brushing some from the
dashboard. He didn't deny it, and told officers that he uses
cocaine "whenever I can get my hands on it."
More recently, Paris Hilton's prison term
was cut short due to a "medical
issue" (hence all of the subsequent vacation and partying after her
release), and Nicole Ritchie served only 82 minutes of
her mandatory four-day DUI sentence due to the same reason as
Lindsay was released - "overcrowding."
This celebrity injustice is starting to
totally piss me off.
