Cedric The
Entertainer Puts Girlfriends Cancellation On Blast
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008
Oh, snap! We were just watching Cedric Kyle aka
Cedric the Entertainer's
Taking You Higher standup on Comedy
Central, and Cedric addressed the cancellation of the Girlfriends show that
angered bloggers and fans alike, but caused hardly a peep from execs who axed it. And if it weren't for the blog
YBF, by the way (who broke
the story), it's doubtful anyone would have known it was cancelled in the
first place.
"All the black shows going off, y'all know this, the
last season of Girlfriends," Cedric said on the show that aired
today. "I'm sorry, I wouldn't have sprung it on you like that," he
joked (for those who haven't yet joined the internet
revolution).
"See, y'all didn't even know. That's the thing
about it, when black shows go off, they just go off. When big white
shows go off, it's always big announcements, billboards and everything -
y'all remember when Friends went off: 'NBC is proud to
present, the final episode of Friends."
That is so
true. I felt awful for all of the readers that were crushed
when YBF announced that
Girlfriends was over, everything from "nooooo" to "that was my
Sex in the City!"
Then again, let's all keep in
mind that blacks are not the only victims being ignored by NBC - feel free
to refer to our entire section dedicated to how blatantly they excluded
Presidential candidates Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee from speaking during
MSNBC's debate. Their bias spreads far and wide over a wide variety
of issues.
If Cedric didn't run this sketch by the dudes in suits,
though, this could be hazardous - CBS
Corporation owns Comedy Central, and half of the CW (which aired Girlfriends). Viacom
bought Comedy Central in 2003, and then Viacom became CBS
Corp. in December 2005. So that was kind of like them insulting
themselves, in a way.
Regardless, we've got to
love Cedric for putting it on blast. Not sure
whether or not he was joking, but Cedric also said that he didn't know the
Steve Harvey Show was cancelled until he came to work and saw the cake.
