Don't Bother Laura,
She's Busy With Christmas Wednesday, December 5th, 2007
Spanks, girl! Come on, don't you watch
Oprah? I think they actually have real grass under that thing
- like sod - which is weird.
The Bush's at their Children's Holiday
Reception & Performance. Look at this kid's face! I
love it! He's all: "Are you for real?" |
Speaking of the White
House: while craziness is going on
worldwide, First Lady Laura Bush is back from her travels and has finished holding haughty receptions to commission ornament
painters for the ornaments on the White House Christmas
tree. (I love how she oh-so-casually
adjusts the ornament with "Honor" printed
on it for the photo op.)
Ah, yes, she sat down with "Good
Morning America" to discuss the removal of the
chandelier from the Blue Room to fit the
Christmas tree; she unveiled a gingerbread White
House covered in white chocolate (made by
personal chefs, of course), that even had tiny replicas of the
Bush's dogs, "Barney and Miss Beazley, in Santa's sleigh on the
roof." |
Every year First Lady Bush picks a "theme" for the
White House's Christmas. (Yeah, well, get ready for a goodbye
theme next year!) This year, she chose "Holiday in the National
Parks" as the theme.
They used golden leaves, handmade ornaments,
and art that showed America's parks. Guess how long they've
been working on this? Since
March.
"Nancy and I start to work
on the Christmas decorations about March. It takes us that long,"
Laura said. "We start to think about what the theme will be and we
start to develop what the decorations will be because Nancy, the
florist, the volunteers and the White House staffing - including the
plumbers, electricians and carpenters - build a lot of the decorations
every year."
What a life.
The larger ornaments on the tree
represented all of the national parks in the U.S. President George
W. Bush and First Lady Laura then had another little photo op in the East Room of the White House, where
some kids were invited to watch the Ford's Theater Society perform "A
Christmas Carol."
