Are You OK With Giving Big Banks $700 Billion?
Monday, September 22nd, 2008 by Connie T.

If only this got as many headlines as the tabloid trash. As you may know,
President-not-for-much-longer George W. Bush is tacking on another insult to taxpayers
in addition to the $9 trillion national
deficit before he makes his exit: he's asking Congress to agree to pay around $700 billion (out
of your pockets) to banks and financial institutions in the U.S. to bail them out of defaulted
mortgages, foreclosed real estate, and other bad investments. This is a pivotal moment
for America's economy, Bush said. In our nation's history, there have been moments that require us
to come together across party lines to address major challenges. This is such a moment.
Democrats are attempting to add a middle class assistance program to the legislation, including
possible benefits for those who have lost their jobs. The administration, however, wants to avoid
adding "controversial" items.
So asking forcing U.S. citizens to bail out
corporate giants and not our fellow working class men and women who are struggling to put food
on the table is not controversial? And is it not enough that they get over
$50 billion per year in overdraft fees alone from those in dire financial situations?
This is not good for my blood pressure.

Contact your Congress Reps and
let them know that you are a voter, elections are coming up, and on this issue you feel that bailing out
big banks right now is ________.
