The photo above is of cheerleaders rehearsing in a
gymnasium in Tianjin municipality yesterday, a team who will attend trials
to compete for a chance at performing in the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic
Games. Games, unfortunately, that we will never see. Because
we are boycotting the 2008 Olympics.
I myself already boycott
purchasing products that are manufactured or assembled in China. I
cannot support a government that does what the Chinese government is
doing, whatsoever. But not buying anything made in China is very
difficult in the U.S. these days, alarmingly so.
Many people have
told me it's impossible.
Did you feel compassion when you saw the
stories of murder, rape, and starvation in Darfur? In July 2004
- for the many atrocities that occured in Darfur, Sudan - U.S.
Congress unanimously declared that the situation in Darfur constituted
genocide.
But do
you know Darfur's link to China?
In 2006,
China's ambassadar declined U.N. peacekeepers deployment to Darfur,
calling it a "good idea and realistic option" that should be done "as
soon as feasible;" yet refused the U.N. resolution allowing the
peacekeepers to be sent there.
The crisis in Darfur, which is
ongoing, began in February of 2003.
Amnesty Internation issued a
report accusing China of supplying arms, ammunition
and related equipment to Sudan. The artillery was transferred to
Darfur for use by the oppressive government, thus violating a UN arms
embargo against Sudan.
Large Chinese oil companies are literally pouring billions into the funding of the war
in Darfur. The Chinese government has effectively watered down every resolution on Darfur in order to
protect its interests in Sudan.
The recent sanctions by the Bush administration against
Sudan will be useless, as the region is being supplied with what they
need from the same place we get it from. China.
This
specific link to the ongoing massacre in Darfur is just one
one example of what the Chinese government is
doing. This is to say nothing of the extreme oppression of journalists, press, bloggers,
and even regular internet users in Tibet and throughout
China.
Nor the deepening religious repression in the Chinese-ruled Himalayan
region of Tibet. The pressure, detainment, and even alleged
torture of Tibetian monks and nuns that you have seen in the
headlines: that is thanks to China.
The Olympics.
From the moment International Olympic Committee members began
voting on the location for the 2008 Summer Olympics at Beijing, on July
13, 2001, Chinese police received an order to step up their executions
of delinquents and intensify repression against their own, whomever
chose to speak out against the terrors that stem from
Beijing.

1) Sign the petition, composed by the organizers
of the Dream for Darfur campaign, with the simple form here.
2) Take a quick moment to sent this letter (online) to the selected companies
sponsoring the August 2008 Olympics, hosted by China.
3) If
you have a MySpace page, add Boycott
Beijing 2008. You'll be able to keep updated through your
MySpace bulletin board.
4) This is your opportunity to be
outspoken about crimes against humanity. Do not watch
the 2008 Summer Olympics, and advise everyone
you know, whenever you hear about it, to do the same.
If
they don't understand what is really going on, send them to this
story. At least forward the gift of knowledge and truth for the
people of Darfur.
This is what you can do. If you are
prepared to stand up for the oppression of religion, speech, and the
funding of tyranny, make your statement now.
Refuse to buy
anything with the Olympics logo. Refuse to support these games
until they practice what they preach.
BOYCOTT.
