Sunday, December 30th,
2007
Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's 19-year-old
son, Bilawal Zardari, has been named by The Pakistan Peoples Party as its
new leader, and the party has announced it's participation in
parliamentary elections next month. Bilawal, a student at Oxford
University, told reporters in a news conference today that
he will "stand committed to the principle of federation."
"My
mother," he said, "always says democracy is the best
revenge."
Bilawal will be running jointly with his father, Asif
Zardari. After the PPP's announcement, former Prime Minister Nawaz
Sharif recanted his earlier statements to boycott the upcoming
January 8th election. It
is not yet known whether or not elections in Pakistan will be delayed due to the death of
Bhutto.
