Senate To Vote On Bank Bailout This Evening
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by Connie T.

It has only been two days since the bank bailout measure failed
to pass in the House with a final count of 228 to 205. But tonight, the Senate will be voting
on a barely-revised version of the Wall Street rescue plan.
What's changed? The FDIC insurance
cap has been raised from $100,000 to $250,000. A "Mental Health Parity" provision would require
health insurance companies to cover mental illness equally to physical illness. The bill has also
been attached to a renewable energy tax incentives bill that was also rejected by the House on
Monday.
The vote is to take place this evening, so if you have not yet made your call to
Congress and/or the Senate,
please do so! Not to belabor the point, as Katie Couric would say.
I find it extremely disappointing
that Senator Barack Obama plans to vote to pass this bailout measure. Both he and his VP
running mate Joe Biden have confirmed that they will be present for the vote tonight.
We
all know that Senator John McCain is strongly for the bill's passage. Isn't there supposed
to be a difference between the 2 candidates? Don't we want to believe that Barack Obama is standing up
for the little guy, and not the big banks? And don't John McCain's campaign commercials claim he
stands up to Wall Street?
$700 billion, and any huge economic decision like this should not
be rushed, which is exactly what the George W. Bush administration is trying to do with this bill. Rush
it by, under our noses, when 93% of Americans disagree with it.
Please make your call
before sundown...hopefully I will still have fingernails left by then!
