AT&T,
Verizon May Be Granted Immunity For Illegal Wiretapping

Right now,
big telecom companies including AT&T have a chance of walking away
with retroactive immunity after participating in the Bush administration's wiretapping
program that was later ruled unconstitutional. A bill that is
currently under consideration in the Senate revises the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act and would grant full retroactive immunity
to the telecom giants for their participation in the illegal program
that was utilized to spy on American civilians.
Why is this
important? President George W. Bush wants retroactive immunity for
these monopolistic telecommunications companies to stop civil liberties
lawsuits by innocent, affected Americans - before they can start.
If this bill passes, and the lawsuits are not allowed to go forward, we
may never know the extent of the administration's wiretapping efforts
that took place without the proper - and required - warrants.
The
Bush administration has indicated that Bush will refuse to sign a
FISA law that does not include amnesty for AT&T and Verizon
- the enablers.
Verizon, AT&T, and other large phone
companies turned over their callers' information without
warrants and helped the current administration break the
law. Now the Senate is prepared to excuse this lawbreaking
activity.
This is not okay...but there is something you can do
about it.
Urge your Senators to stop warrantless wiretapping and
retroactive immunity for the telecom giants.
Thanks to CREDO
action, there is an easy petition already set up for you, all you have to
do is click and sign - and it will be sent to your Senators, telling
them to uphold their oath of office: no retroactive
immunity and no warrantless wiretapping.
