Is this really necessary? I knew it would be
a mistake to put Adam Carolla on ABC. The former
wisecracker of MTV's Loveline andthe overtly
sexist The Man Show on Comedy Central, Carolla spits
controversial as part of a quest to be popular. In a scene
reminiscent of Kathy Griffindissing Jesus at the live Emmy's ceremony in September, Adam
used his live judges' review tonight on Dancing With The Stars to
simultaneously insult the art of the tango and the religion of at least 5.6 million people (in the US alone). And Argentina, and the
tango, and homosexual wardrobe designers.
After
completing his tango number with partner Julianne Hough, Adam said, "I
gotta say something quickly...I don't know who dressed this little
gal [Julianne], but the Sandy Duncan wig and the
friar's frock is not helping
our cause. Now, I'm not saying there's a
couple gay guys upstairs in wardrobe, but possibly. Maybe
one," Adam said. A flesh-colored, form-fitting dress
with black sequin applique over it is the equivalent of a monk's
robe? I think not.
Implying what, exactly? That they were
purposely covering her up?
After the commercial break,
Samantha Harris asked Adam what it was like to learn the passion of the
tango. Hough was looking cheerfully professional. Adam looked
down at the mike and said, "Well, my grandfather always told me, son, if
you want to learn about an Argentenian dance about prostitutes, speak to a
Mormon." [Pauses for desperate comedic effect.] "And I didn't
know what he meant, back on his knees, back on his knees...in 1971...but I
now know."
Kudos to 19-year-old Julianne for being a
class act when put on the spot. She has more finesse - and
wisdom - than her dance partner, who is almost a quarter of a
century her senior. Carolla is lucky that DWTS fan Donny Osmond wasn't
in the audience...there might've been fists thrown! Or Marie Osmond, for that
matter!
"Hold on, she's Jewish, right?" he said of Hough. "I love the Mormons. I didn't know,
sweetie," he says to Julianne, with the worst acting chops this side of The Hills. She pulled his sleeve and
mouthed "stop." Poor thing!
Carolla's worse than just
unfunny - he substitutes controversy for comedy, as if talent can be
derived from putting down minorities.
The only thing I don't
understand is why ABC was able to bleep out Marissa Jaret Winokur accidentally
saying "sh*t" live, and they couldn't bleep out Carolla's filthy
hate? There's no reason to make a mockery of any race or
creed...it's shameful. I think it's a little worse than the sh- word.
Censorship priorities on television are so screwed up.
Adam Carolla is an atheist, according to his comments on his own show. That's his
right. But should
Carolla be allowed to use DWTS to promote his agenda of criticizing those
that believe in a God? Yet whoah, whoah, whoah, nobody say the slang word for poop.
ABC ought to thank their lucky stars that Julianne is so couth.
